—stories of a brownie girl at blueberry university—

A bowl of immediate friends, rotisserie chicken and caramel-brownie-sundaes from Sam’s Club, and a princess bed that takes up the whole bedroom.

I moved in on December 3rd, a Thursday, and immediately began meeting people. A boy next door asked if I was moving in, because he hadn’t seen me around before. A tall, blonde boy across the street came over and helped me move everything in. He had such a great smile.

But after that, I was in for the night: putting my books on their shelves, hanging my red dress, and laying my mattress pad out on the floor as a makeshift bed. The room was coming together okay. It didn’t quite feel like home yet without my moon and dreamy prints on the walls, my pinky duvet, and some ice cream in the freezer.

So I felt a bit lonely, a bit worried that it would, indeed, take me a bit to make friends. I could‘ve called the boy from across the street, but decided to explore Main Street in instead. That’s how I ended up at Sonic with an Oreo-cheesecake milkshake (not very good) and a corn dog (6/10). Though not immensely impressive, they felt magic, my first silly meal in my new home.

As I sat on my four inch tall bed and watched a documentary for my Anthropology class, a knock came at my door. There, on the porch, was a wavy haired girl in search of some lost mail. And me, a coffee-colored girl with an XXL sweatshirt for a nightgown, said, “Well how about we go check the mailbox?” That’s how I met Rachel.

Somehow I ended up over at her apartment with her two roommates, Kylee and Kylie, and their angel friend, Ethan (Beef). We watched The Bachelorette, spilled Skinny-Pop everywhere, and talked about the Law of Attraction until 2 A.M.

They took me under their wings like big sisters, and asked if I wanted to go to the school Rec. Center with them the next morning. So I did.

I spent that whole Friday with them: In the heavenly beautiful room on the third floor of the Rec. Center, having sushi at the Black Pearl (the First Kiss Roll is a blessing and a half), at the Student Center for homework and bites of far too tempting fudge, hanging out with the Student Body VP and checking out his fancy office upstairs (fit with a drawer that held a gavel and two glasses for sparkling cider [for times of celebration, of course]). Here’s a peek at their cute Christmas setup too.

When I got home late into the night again, I realized that staying up all night in fits of giggles and soberly, sleep-deprived slurred words would become quite a habit.

It was a dream. And then, on Saturday, it was time to drive back home to momma.

The following week, things got even more wild and exciting.
