Your Reality is Made Up of Your Choices

I believe that you chose to be alive today and that everything in your life is up to you. You are capable of anything. What are you waiting for? It seems to me that everything is made up of choices. If you're unhappy with the city that you live in, move away. If you're feeling bored, stop what you’re bored with and bake cookies for the neighbors. This is your world. If you want to be a barbecue dad, start working toward that. Maybe throw a few family barbecues and work on your burger-cuing. You are a human being blessed with choice. And there will always be obstacles, but there will always be a way.

The day that I wrote this was wonderful. I had a bridal shower to go to (for Sarah-- an old and always best friend-- and her fiance’s sister Elise-- a sweetheart--). I could've brushed my teeth and hit the road, but that's not my way. I learned a long time ago that my day is full of magic when I dress to the nines. So I chose the cherry red sweater, put on my makeup, and drove over. I'd been sick all week long and had planned on not coming to the shower, but it was Sar’s. Everything that happened because of that decision to go was incredible. I was reminded me that I want to say yes more, to go out and immerse myself in “new”. New brings that feeling of being richly alive.

The shower was at Sar’s soon to be aunty-in-law’s home. As I threw on the cherry sweater, jumped in the car, and drove with the windows down, I felt more and more alive. The further I drove, the longer I’d look out the window at the approaching mountains: covered in tall trees, an aqua blue birdy flying from one to another. I realized that this is so much of what I want: the mountain air with that smell of wild something, the A-frame-ish home with big windows and little stone trails through gardens all around it, her sons in the kitchen talking about school while all the girls sit outside eating soup and sweets and giggling while the brides-to-be open their gifts, and to be Sarah who’s marrying into a big family that looks as though they could all share one wardrobe full of cream and navy blue, sweaters, stripes, and floral patterns, and high-heeled booties, who are all taken care of in a way that they pursue things like becoming a pilot, and living in a beautiful home in the mountains, surrounded by trees, where they host lovely bridal showers.

All of those little revelations came from this choice to go to a celebration. I left feeling inspired and enlightened from the sight and feelings of their beautiful little reality. It’s all a bunch of choices. For me right now, it’s about exploring: When they ask me to come with them, will I say yes? Will I put aside my world for a minute and have a taste of something fresh? It’s already a success! Instead of putting this post up on Sunday as I promised, I spent the day on an adventure: going for a ride in the mac ‘n’ cheese colored jeep with my best friend and his sweet little brother, snuggling up with their youngest munchkin during the movie, and having a pillow fight with all of the kids after.

So here’s my thought:

Realize those things that you want and change your everyday routine to one that leads you to them.

Each time you find yourself wishing, remember that you don't need to. It's all waiting for you and there's a way to get there, just do a little digging sweet thing.
